I want to nominate my child for AIG identification. What do I do?
Scholars can be nominated for identification at any time during the school year. If you would like to nominate your student, please review the ID & Services page on this site and contact Dr. Danehower at ndanehower@wcpss.net.
How is a student identified as AIG?
Students in grades 4-8 may be nominated for gifted programming at any point in the year.
When a student is nominated, data will be collected by the school-based committee for gifted education to determine if a referral/testing is appropriate.
A student may be evaluated using the CogAT and Iowa tests during the Fall and Spring testing windows.
Students may also be identified through the portfolio process which utilizes multiple data points for identification.
CogAT and Iowa Testing will take place in October and January.
Individually administered tests and other alternative measures (i.e., nonverbal assessments) may be given if appropriate.
My child was identified as AIG in another school or school system. What do I do?
Contact the AIG teacher who will work with you to ensure your scholar receives appropriate placement and services.
Share all the original identification paperwork with the AIG teacher.
WCPSS accepts certain aptitude and achievement tests; your scholar's scores must meet the WCPSS eligibility requirements.
Additional testing (fall or spring) may be required.
