Be Wise When you Research

The eWise model of research was adopted by WCPSS in 2013. It reflects the various stages of research while showing it is not a linear process, but one that may overlap or repeat steps and stages. When students are engaged in research they exhibit these five behaviors:

Evaluation

This is at the center of the model since evaluation of resources is critical to the research process. It is an ongoing process that occurs throughout all phases of research.

Wonder

The driving force behind research. Students engage curiosity, generate questions, and build background knowledge.

Investigate

Students actively search for answers to their questions, make meaning from text and other information sources, and express findings in their own words.

Synthesize

Students make connections across resources, identify relationships, build meaning and draw conclusions from their research.

Express

Students express knowledge gained through research in various formats (presentations, creation, etc.)
