Dr. Graf has worked in the Wake County Public School System for 18 years.
She taught in the primary grades at Holly Springs and Lincoln Heights Elementary. She completed her administrative internship at Ballentine Elementary in Fuquay Varina, NC.
Dr. Graf served as the assistant principal of East Garner Elementary from July 2007 to August of 2010 when she became the Assistant Principal at Timber Drive Elementary.
In 2011 Dr. Graf was named the Principal of Banks Road Elementary in Fuquay Varina where she served until March of 2015. She served as the Principal for over three and half years until called back to serve at East Garner Elementary as Principal. Dr. Graf recently earned her doctorate degree at Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Graf has been married for 20 years and has 5 children, 3 graduates of WCPSS schools and 2 currently attending WCPSS schools. She is dedicated to student learning and is passionate about equity and opportunity for all students. She is a diehard Tarheel fan. :) Go Heels!

Dr. Graf was humbled to be considered a Semi-Finalist for the prestigious honor of WCPSS Principal of the Year for two years consecutively. Recognized by her peers as an advocate for all students and a champion for educational equityDr. Graf continues to #PUSH for advancements in educational opportunities at EGES.
The Educator of the Year Award honors a champion of physical education or health education in the schools. Our 2019 Recipient is Carmen Graf, Principal, East Garner Elementary.
Principal Carmen Graf has been instrumental in making huge changes at East Garner Elementary over the last few years. She co-wrote 3 grants with Poe totaling $9,000 for school updates including building a school garden with 17 raised garden beds and a living herb wall in the cafeteria which has also been completely renovated with new furniture and space layout and design, and inspirational and health messaging all with a focus on social-emotional learning and the whole child. She has plans to turn a classroom into a social-emotional learning lab and installing movement hallways this school year among many other changes.
She has worked tirelessly to improve the school and help her students, and through her work at the school, the school received recognition as a Capturing Kids Hearts National Model Showcase School, one of the few in the nation. She is constantly supporting her staff and students and is very passionate about making a difference at East Garner Elementary and their surrounding community.
