1. Download Inkscape & Access Project Files

This course will teach you how to use Inkscape. You will first need to have the free open source software installed on your computer. Then you will need to access the project files that we will use during the course. Here is the link for the project files.

2. Touring Inkscape

This video gives a brief tour of all of the interface. This is a lot of information. Do not get overwhelmed. We will cover the interface in detail as we progress through the course.


3. Toolbox Tour

This lesson briefly identifies each tool in the toolbox. We will look at and use each tool later in this course.

4. Creating New Documents

This video will demonstrate how to create a new document from a template, how to adjust the size of the document, and how to add meta data.

5. Document Properties

This video looks at some document properties you may need to adjust. For example, creating a transparent background or changing the color of the background.

6. Global Preferences

This video will review some of the global preferences settings. Some of these include changing the language of the interface, adjusting the speed of the mouse, increasing the DPI level for printing, and adjusting the viewing quality of a rendered file.

7. Zooming Options

This video shows several ways to zoom in on objects.

8. Dialogue Boxes

This lesson demonstrates how to open and resize dialogue boxes.


9. Creating Guides

This lesson shows you how to create guides, customize guides, delete guides, and use the guide creator.

10. Creating Grids

This video shows how to create two different types of grids and how to customize them.


11. Snapping

This video will demonstrate several ways snapping can be useful.

12. Views

This lesson will demonstrate two views and the benefits of using these views.

13. Layers

This lesson will go over what layers are, how to access them, and how to adjust their setting.

14. Drawing

You are about to have some fun. In this lesson we will trace out four objects while learning to use a drawing tool. You will need this project file. Download the file and then import it into a Inkscape project.

15. Nodes

There are so many shortcuts for nodes. You can spend hours learning about nodes. Check out this website. Scroll down to the nodes section. Here is the link for the project file for this lesson.
