During the 21/22 academic year, we will make the library a more equitable space by providing virtual students with access to lessons, read alouds, and the collection.
To provide access, virtual students were able to put holds on materials and then pick up the materials once they were checked out. Information about placing holds on books as well as picking up and returning materials was available on the school website, library website, and through teacher newsletters
During the 2021 - 2022 school year, there were 180 holds place on books, with a majority of these for virtual students. While there were not very many students who used the curbside book check out system as compared with the 2020 - 2021 school year, those that did were very excited about having access to the library collection while learning at home.
Additional ways of providing access to the library for virtual students included morning meeting visits with virtual classes and digital access to school-wide literacy events including Read Across America week, World Read Aloud Day, and the North Carolina Children's Book Award program.
During the 2021 - 2022 academic year, we will make the library a more equitable space by planning for future purchases that will grow the collection into one that better represents the diverse population of students that the library serves.
This goal was tabled for the following school year where will will survey stakeholders (students, staff, families, and community) to assess the needs of the library collection in terms of culturally relevant books and make a plan to fund and purchase these materials.
