Mrs. Humphrey

The Basics

Hi first grade families! My name is Mrs. Jana Humphrey! I live in Cary with my husband Will, our cat, Possum and our dog, Colonel. I enjoy the vacationing at the  beach and sharing new experiences with friends and family. My husband and I are big Carolina Hurricanes fans. In years past, I have enjoyed my time as an instructional assistant in first grade! This will be my 7th year at Cary Elementary, and my fourth year as a core first grade teacher!

My Childhood

I was born right down the street in Raleigh, North Carolina.  I attended Swift Creek Elementary, Dillard Middle, and Athens Drive High School and graduated in 2005. I spent my summers going to Girl Scout summer camp and participating in the YMCA. As a family, we loved going to the movies and having picnics outside!

My Education and Experience

I attended Peace College and graduated in 2009 with my major in Psychology and a minor in Child Development.  I worked as a director for the Girl Scouts of North Carolina Coastal Pines and a director with the YMCA. After meeting my husband, we moved to Richmond, VA and taught pre-kindergarten for 3 years.  I loved teaching pre-k, but I missed my family here in NC. I recently finished my Masters of Arts in Teaching degree at N.C. State.  Go Pack! 🐺 My philosophy of teaching is to hold my students to their highest potential.  We work very hard in first grade! I believe in the value of learning through play. We can do hard things, but that doesn't mean we can't have fun doing them!

I am looking forward to learning and growing with you this school year and can't wait to get started! Feel free to contact me at jfhumphrey@wcpss.net
