Love That Dog is a story about a boy named Jack who discovers a love for poetry.
As we read the story of Jack we will also read and analyze several famous poems.
Performance Task: At the end of module 1, students will be writing their own unique poem to share with the class and present to their family.
Module Vocabulary:
Poet: the person who writes a poem
Stanza: Lines grouped like a paragraph
Verse: Each line in a poem
Line: one row of words in a poem
Meter/Rhythm: A pattern of stressed or unstressed syllables, makes you want to clap your hands or stomp your feet
Rhyme Scheme: The pattern of rhyming words at the end of each line. Labeled using letters. For example, ABAB
Repetition: Using the same word, phrase or line over and over
Rhyme: words that sound alike
Mood: The feeling the poet is trying to convey
Theme: The moral or message the poet is trying to convey
Topic: What the poem is about
