Welcome to the Broughton Magnet Program website!
Located in the heart of Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina, USA, Broughton is the most historic high school in Wake County. In 1929, Broughton began a tradition of excellence that continues to the present. As Wake County's Global Studies & Language Immersion magnet high school, Broughton offers innovative global learning experiences that inspire students to be thoughtful, reflective, service-minded citizens who enjoy learning and contribute effectively within the local-to-global community. We are proud to offer the benefits of a large, comprehensive high school combined with diverse opportunities for students to find their niche, form lasting friendships, and engage meaningfully in academic, athletic, and artistic endeavors.
For an overview of Broughton's academic, artistic, athletic, extracurricular, and service-oriented programs, please view Broughton At a Glance and the Broughton website.
All Broughton students take part in international and global education designed to help them understand the world and develop skills and dispositions that will lead us all to a better future. This global integration is our magnet theme and is framed around the integration of the UN Sustainable Development Goals for all courses at all grade levels. Also, juniors and seniors have the opportunity to engage in the rich and rigorous International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, which Broughton has offered since 2003. Since 2021, Broughton has offered immersion programs in Spanish and Mandarin for students who are participating in the Wake County Schools K-12 immersion pathway. High school immersion courses focus on the development of advanced language and literacy development in the target language, reaching university-level literature study. Students who complete the full International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and the immersion pathway are candidates for the International Baccalaureate Bilingual Diploma.
