Policies and Procedures

Dear Prospective Beta Club Members (grades 10 - 11) . . .

The National Beta Club Honor Society recognizes outstanding achievement, promotes character and social responsibility, encourages service involvement to school and community, fosters leadership skills, and provides settings for members to develop interpersonal relationship skills.

Membership in the Wakefield High School Chapter of National Beta Club Honor Society requires many things; Members must maintain an excellent academic record, as well as be a good role model. In order to assure that members continue in good standing, we have outlined specific guidelines for members to follow.

Attendance Policy:

You are only allowed THREE absences. We are no longer doing excused vs. unexcused, so we DO NOT need an email when you are unable to attend. Once you exceed the three absence limit, you will be removed from the club. Meetings will be announced and posted on the Beta bulletin board, Wakefield HS site and Beta Club Honor Society Google site. Failure to attend the required number of meetings may result in dismissal from club.

Academics:

Once your becomes a member of The National Senior Beta Club Honor Society, GPA's will be checked each semester. If a member's GPA drops below a 3.5, they will be on Probation from Beta Club for the next semester. If the member's GPA is still below 3.5 for the following semester, they will be REMOVED from Beta Club. If any member does not meet any of the required membership responsibilities and their membership is withdrawn, no membership fees will be refunded regardless of the reason for dismissal.

Dues:

New Members: TBA

Returning members: TBA

The will be no refund if you do not fulfill membership expectations or requirements.

Volunteer Hours:

  • Students are required to earn 15 service hours per semester.

  • Meeting Attendance DOES count for 0.5 hours of service.

  • There is no distinction between sponsored and unsponsored hours.

  • Students are NOT allowed to count service hours for helping teachers.

  • Students ARE allowed to tutor another student under the supervision of a teacher.

  • Students involved in other school activities (cheer, sports, other clubs, etc) are NOT excused from attending club meetings. Due to there not being a SMART lunch anymore, there will be no opportunity to "make-up" the meetings.

Character:

Part of being a member of the Beta Club is demonstrating good character. Members must set an exemplary example for everyone. If a member receives ISS (in school suspension) or OSS (out of school suspension) for any reason, the student will be immediately dismissed from membership in the Beta Club Honor Society.

Honor Code:

Wakefield High School Honor Code:

"The students of Wakefield High School are committed to being honest and responsible in the completion of academic materials and interactions with the school administration and community. Cheating, stealing, plagiarism (passing off another's work, words, or ideas as one's own), and lying (including willful distortion or misrepresentation) are considered violations of the Honor Code. Through a joint fulfillment of this code, students and faculty will achieve their fullest potential in academic excellence and character."

*STUDENTS IN VIOLATION OF THE HONOR CODE ARE SUBJECT TO DISMISSAL FROM THE BETA CLUB
