The fifth grade science fair is open to any fifth-grade student that would like to participate. This is different than the Science Expo, run by the PTA, later in the year. For this fair, students can potentially advance to the regional fair at Wake Tech Community College in mid-February, and then to the state fair at NC State on March 21, 2026. Both the regional and state fairs will be held on a Saturday.
The 2025-2026 Grade 5 Science Fair will be held during the school day at Baucom on January 7, 2026. This fair is only for fifth-grade students. We do not have families attend the fair, since judges will be interviewing the participants. The top 3-4 projects will represent Baucom at the regional fair. Families can attend the regional and state fair.
Students can work individually or in a team of up to three people on a single project.
*** Important: Please watch the video below from the information night session on September 30. If a student is interested in participating in the grade 5 Science Fair for the 2025-2026 school year, please complete the registration form that was sent home. A copy of that form can be found below. Once that form is completed and turned in to Mr. Stack, you will then gain access to the Science Fair Canvas course.
If a fifth-grade student who wants to participate in this year's fair does not have access to the science fair Canvas course, please let me know at nstack@wcpss.net. It is very important that everyone has access to that course in order to view recommended timelines and judging rubrics.
Thank you!
