Frequently Asked Questions

• What are the requirements for Key Club?

  • Turn in application and dues ($15) by the stated deadline by September 24th, 2022

  • Complete 50 service hours by the stated deadline for the school-year

  • All Key Club members MUST complete a minimum of 10 Key Club inside hours projects during the school year (donation hours do not count)

  • No more than 10 donation hours will count

  • No more than 10 hours per organization. We want you to diversify your service to the community.

  • No more than 10 hours per event.

  • 10 of your 50 hours MUST be inside hours

• What's the difference between "Inside" hours and "Outside" hours?

  • Inside Hours = Any hours you receive from participating in events either at the school itself or in relation to it (on the Sign-Up Genius). 

  • Outside Hours = Any hours you receive from participating in events that you've found for yourself (ex: you volunteered at an event organized through your church; you volunteer at a soup kitchen with your family; you volunteer at a hospital on your own during Spring Break, etc.)

  • If you are unsure about what will count for which type of hour, please contact a member of the board or Mrs. Batten.

• Can I complete MORE than 10 inside hours?

  • Of course! In fact, all 50 of your hours can be inside hours, as long as you have at least 10.

• Do I have to get a signature for every event or donation?

  • Yes! If you don't have a signature or documentation to verify the hours, those hours will not count. It is important that you have your sheet with you at every event and any time you turn in donations.

  • 2023 CHANGE: Moving forward, IF an event is virtual you MUST have an email or phone number to verify your service if a signature is not possible. Please print an email from the event organizer to confirm that you completed your hours. Please remember that signatures are the preferred method.

• Should I make a copy or keep records of my hours?

  • Yes. You should definitely make a copy of your sheet and keep an extra record just in case. You never know when you will need to retrieve that information and we do not keep hours sheets from year to year.

• How long do I have to complete hours?

  • We set a deadline to turn in hours around the middle of May, every school year. Although you have almost an entire school-year to complete your hours, it is probably best to get as many hours done as soon as you can. It's much easier to find events and opportunities for community service during the Fall Semester than it is to find them in the Spring.

• What if I cannot make an event I sign up for?

  • We understand that unexpected situations come up at times, but if you cannot make an event you have signed up for make sure to contact the coordinator of the event from the organization and/or a board member. Organizations depend on us for our service and a “no-show” can cause a lot of problems for that organization.

  • If you are a “no-show” and/or do not come to meetings, penalties may be given 

• Can I "double-dip" my hours?

  • You WILL be allowed to “double dip.” This means you can use the community service you complete for one club at Athens, like NHS or Leo Club, and apply it to Key Club as well, but you still need a signature for both. 

• Do I really need to join the Remind?

  • YES! JOIN the Remind!

  • We send out important information (new volunteer opportunities, updates on existing opportunities, deadlines, agendas, etc.) here and it is our best point of contact for our members. It is in your best interest to join so you can be sure you are up to date.
