Madi Marks
Band Director
Ms. Marks has been the band director at Apex Middle School since 2024. Ms. Marks is a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned her Bachelor of Music education degree.
Throughout her time at Carolina, Ms. Marks was involved in UNC Wind Ensemble, UNC Music Ambassador program, Musical Empowerment, Sigma Alpha Iota, and the Marching Tar Heels. Within the Marching Tar Heels Ms. Marks was a Danielle Elizabeth Liotta Award recipient and served as a UNC Marching Tar Heel Drum Major. During the second half of her college career, she dove deep into international research after studying abroad in the UNC Burch London & Florence Musical Perspective program. Shortly after this she was awarded the Honors Burch Fellowship to study the difference in American versus Italian music education in secondary schools. She returned to Florence this past summer through the Mildred Brown Mayo Undergraduate Research Fund in Music to study Italian vocal pedagogy. Within the UNC School of Education Ms. Marks was a Gail Weaver Bunn Fellow, a recipient of the NC Teach Fellow Scholarship, and a recipient Fred Pfohl Crouch, Sr. and Marjorie Mulligan Crouch Scholarship.
During the last 6 years Ms. Marks has also taught her own private studio with students placing in top seats of their school ensembles, All- District Band, and All-State Band. Ms. Marks has also taught at marching band camp for Providence High School, Willow Spring High School, and Olympic High School. This summer Ms. Marks was awarded a grant through the Arts and Science Council in Charlotte to fund her program "Rhythm of Our Conversations" where she taught students beat patterns through how different languages sound.
Ms. Marks lives in Cary NC, and in her free time, Ms. Marks is usually at the pickleball courts, in a cycle class, or doing improv games.
