Digital Learning Technology Survey

Hello 8-4 families,

Hopefully by now you’ve seen the most recent Wake County parent email regarding continued education. Year round schools are starting continued learning of new content the week of April 6th. We will be sending out more detailed information in the near future after attending county and school trainings for online learning.

We need your help! Please answer the following questions on the survey below as we prepare for digital learning:

  • Does your student have access to a device at home?
    • Yes or no? If so, what type of device will they be using (cell phone, laptop, tablet, desktop)?
  • Does your family have internet access at home?
    • Yes or no?
  • Does your family have access to a printer?
    • Yes or no?

Please click the link below to access the technology survey.

Digital Learning Family Survey

The county will be working on providing resources for families without a device or internet access so this information is important for us to know moving forward.

Thank you!

8th Grade Parents

Thank you for coming out to hear about high school registration. I hope you found the presentation informative, relevant, and engaging. I wanted to highlight and clarify a couple of things regarding the high school registration process:

-The window to register for classes opens on 2/24. That is when you and your student may go into Powerschool and begin registering for classes. If you and your student log in on that day and the class registration link is not there, keep checking back.

-While the due dates to bring the folders back are March 2 (tracks 1, 3 and 4) and March 10 (track 2), your student may bring the folder in starting 2/25 and I will begin checking them over and registering students who would like to do it at school.

-I have put the presentation from last night on the website for your reference: https://www.wcpss.net/Page/27760

-Track 2 parents - The date for turning the folders in is March 10 (the first day the students come back from track out). This is a change from the presentation last night. If you were not able to come last night, you or your student may stop by to get his/her folder from the student services office.

-Please contact me if you have any questions

Ashlords Order Form (1).pdf

Ashlords

by Scott Reintgen

Mr. Reintgen is a former Lufkin student. He was in the inaugural 6th grade class! He is an Apex resident, and he has chosen Lufkin as the school to launch his new series on January 21!

Orders must be received by Friday, January 10!

Orders are available in the MC, on the LRMS website, and in the hallways.

Book Summary -Every year since the Ashlords were gifted phoenix horses by their gods, they've raced them. First into battle, then on great hunts, and finally for the pure sport of seeing who rode the fastest. Centuries of blood and fire carved their competition into a more modernspectacle: The Races.
Over the course of a multi-day event, elite riders from clashing cultures vie to be crowned champion. But the modern versionof the sport requires more than good riding. Competitors must be skilled at creating and controlling phoenix horses made ofash and alchemy, which are summoned back to life each sunrise with uniquely crafted powers to cover impossible distancesand challenges before bursting into flames at sunset. But good alchemy only matters if a rider knows how to defend theirphoenix horse at night. Murder is outlawed, but breaking bones and poisoning ashes? That's all legal and encouraged.
In this year's Races, eleven riders will compete, but three of them have more to lose than the rest--a champion's daughter,a scholarship entrant, and a revolutionary's son. Who will attain their own dream of glory? Or will they all flame out in defeat?

Reality of Money - 9/13/19

Each student will be given a "student profile" at random. The profile will include their occupation, education level completed, marital status, # of children, student loan payment, and savings account balance.

During the simulation, students use their listed income to talk to the multiple expense stations. Volunteers at each station will assist students in making the everyday financial decisions necessary to make it to their next payday! The stations are as follows: housing, transportation, groceries, childcare, clothing, communications, entertainment, healthcare insurance, credit cards, dollars & $ense, next payday, and a help station!

As students visit each station they will keep a checkbook record of the transaction expense, deposit, and balance. Throughout this process, students may even need to revisit a station if they go over their budget.

Volunteers are necessary to make this event possible! With the help of you, we can teach students to make smart decisions with money so they can build a solid financial foundation for their future!

You can find the volunteer sign-up on the Lufkin Road scrolling home page or click here.

Positivity Project

#otherpeoplematter

This is Lufkin Road Middle School's second year partnering with the Positivity Project to emphasize growing our students and our faculty as people of strong character. Each day in Lightning Time students will learn about, discuss, and engage in activities that emphasize all 24 character strengths.

Students will take the strengths test during the first week of the school year.

Take the Character Strengths Test!

  • IF YOU WERE AT LUFKIN LAST YEAR - log in with your Wake County e-mail address. If needed, select "Forgot Password" to reset.
  • If you are new to Lufkin or have not yet taken the Character Strengths Test, create an account using your student e-mail. Use the same password that you use to log into the computer.
  • Select "youth" survey rather than "adult" survey (ages 10-17).
  • Take as much time as you need to take the survey.
  • Complete your character strengths worksheet when you are finished.
