Hello Parents,

Well today is the day we send our students off to high school. I am so proud of them, yet this day is filled with mixed emotions. I know they are ready for high school and for the wonderful and exciting experiences that await them, but this does not make it any easier to say goodbye to them. Thank you all for giving me the opportunity to teach your children. You should be very proud of the mature young people they are becoming.

I have copied the letter I sent them on Google Classroom. It also includes a link for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

Have a wonderful summer,

Ms. Raffensperger

:)

Dear Parents,

I hope you and your families are doing well. Please know I am thinking of you. I miss your children, and I encourage them to keep up with their learning. ELA Resources are posted on the 8-4 website. I have also listed this information on Google Classroom. Many have joined, but some have not. Please check with them. Reading novels are also highly recommended. I would suggest American literature/classics to help prepare them for high school. I will be putting a recommended reading list under ELA resources in the next few days.

Some of you have asked me about work and grading. So far, all work assigned that was due before the closing of schools will be graded work. (Due on or before March 13, 2020) I have posted the following information for your students on Google Classroom. Please read it for more details.

Stay Healthy,

Ms. Raffensperger

Google Classroom note to students on March 25, 2020.

Good Morning Students,

I hope you are logging in everyday. Have fun with Memorable Moments. Please remember these are private pictures and under no circumstances should the be copied or shared. I trust you are respectful of this.

As you sign in, please make sure you are doing work on the ELA Resources I have posted. Keep your learning moving forward.

Your Independent Reading Project is on hold for now. You will get a new due date on it in the future. If you have finished it, please hang on to it for now. Do not misplace it. :)

Read Theory grades were cut off on 3/13 instead of 3/15 and were adjusted accordingly, so no one was penalized. Read Theory is one of the sites I listed as a resource, so you are more than welcome to work on it. As of now, it will not be graded. I will let you know if that changes.

All work that was due on or before 3/13/20 will be graded. If you have late or missing work, it would be a good idea to complete it. You can check Power School. Send me an email when you have completed ALL of your late or missing work, and we can discuss how to get it to me. Do not contact me one piece at a time, but if you have questions, please feel free to contact me.

If you have not joined the resource classroom, please do so ASAP. Tell your friends to join if they have not done so.

I hope everyone is well. Remember, play nice with your siblings, and be kind to your parents. :)

Take care, and I miss you all,

Ms. Raffensperger

:)

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone is doing well. My thoughts are with all of you at this time. Enjoy having your children with you at home. I think of them daily, and I do miss their presence. I am not used to such quiet . It confirms my beliefs of how much they contribute to a teacher's daily life. Tell them all I said hello and miss them. I am going to post some memorable moments on my Google Classroom site, ELA Resources. Students will need to sign in and join the class. Of course, there are also enrichment resources on the site. :) I will start the "Memorable Moments" on Monday, March 23, 2020. Take care and stay healthy.

Dear Parents,

I have posted the following message on Google Classroom.

Hello Students,

Some of you have emailed me about your Read Theory scores. Read Theory grades and dates have been removed from Power School. I will repost them over the next few days. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Suggestions for things to do if you are bored. These are not assignments.

Working on Read Theory or reading a book will help keep your reading and analytical skills sharp. This is not an assignment and will not be graded.

I will check in to say hello from time to time, so check Google Classroom.

Don't forget to wash your hands frequently and try not to touch your face.

The most important thing is that you and your families stay healthy.

You will be missed.

Attached is an outline for students to use when writing quick writes and short response answers. Students have this in their Learning Notebook (LN), but I thought it might be helpful for parents to understand what is required in 8th grade. Student will be quoting material from the text, explaining the quote, and citing the material. Check off graphic organizers are available for students if they need them.
