Phonics Rules
Here is where you can find all the phonic rules that we work on in class. Every week your child should be bring home a skills block packet. At the front of that packet you will see our words for the week. Our goal is not for students to memorize these words but to be able to know which phonics pattern to use. To practice this you can put the words of the week on note cards and play this game with them.
Partner 1: Reads the word and asks what spelling pattern it is spelled with
Partner 2: Identifies the correct spelling pattern to use and writes the word on his or her white board.
Partner 1: shows word to partner 2 to checkĀ
* switch roles
Example:
Partner 1: the word is rain, is the word spelled with ai or ay?
Partner 2: well I hear long a in the middle of the word, so is it spelled ai?
Partner 1: correct now write the word (when finished partner one shows them the word)
roles are switched
