Understanding the NCPTS (NC Professional Teaching Standards)
IMPORTANT:
ALL 1st Year Alternative Licensure Teachers are required to take 40 hours of professional development in their first year. This is a mandate by State Board Policy TCED-016. Wayne County Public Schools in conjuction with District BT Coordinators have scheduled 24 of the 40 hours for you. If you attend all that is provided, you will need 16 additional hours. See AL1 Log, Part II for more details.
Every beginning teacher is required to observe veteran teachers within their three years in the BT program. Use the form to guide your teacher observations.
Extracurricular Duties Form (Click the underlined title to access the form)
Sample Extracurricular Duties:
Coach, Department Chair, Grade Level Lead, Committee or Club Chair, SIP Team Member/Chair, IEP Chair, etc...
Please note that if a BT is not participating in a extracurricular duty, then they DO NOT have to complete this form.
This form needs to be kept by the mentor and turned in at the end of the school year as a part of the BT’s End-of-Year BT packet.
Alternative Licensure Log, Part 1
*Only for individuals entering with a Residency License, Emergency License or Permit to Teach.
*This form is only required if the AL individual did not attend New Teacher Orientation.

Any AL1 hired after NTO (July 22-24) must complete AL Logs 1 and 2. AL1 Part 2 Logs will be turned in with your BT End of Year Packets
*Any AL1 hired Jan. 1, 2026 and after ("Late Hire") will complete AL Log 1 only. AL Log 2 will be completed in the 2026-2027 school year.
