The Reading Lab provides daily remediation for students in kindergarten through 5th grade with targeted small group instruction. Identified students receive extra instruction with reading fluency, decoding skills, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. Students are identified for Reading Lab services through screening assessments such as VALLSS (grades K-3rd) or STAR Reading (grades 4th and 5th). These assessments are given two to three times each school year.

Title 1 funds support the instructional coaches, the reading lab staff, and some materials for instructional intervention lessons.

Judy Holmes-Instructional Coach

Mrs. Holmes has 31 years of classroom teaching experience that ranges from kindergarten to 5th grade. She's been at Ressie Jeffries Elementary for 18 years as a 4th grade teacher, a 5th grade teacher, and currently, an instruction coach. She works with the Reading Lab staff who provide reading interventions for our students, supports classroom teachers with instruction, and promotes family engagement to our families at Ressie Jeffries Elementary School.

Meredith Miller-Instructional Coach

Mrs. Miller has been a classroom teacher for 27 years and is very excited about becoming a part of the Instructional Coaching team at Ressie. Mrs. Miller works with new teachers and experienced teachers on design and delivery of instruction and implementation of best practices. Additionally, Mrs. Miller works in the Reading Lab with staff and students supporting the implementation of effective reading interventions.

Ona Massey

Mrs. Massey has worked as an instructional assistant at Ressie Jeffries Elementary for 18 years. She started as an instructional assistant with special education for 1 year and has been in the Reading Lab for 17 years.

Kathy Fletcher

Instructional Assistant

Mrs. Fletcher has worked as an instructional assistant at Ressie Jeffries Elementary for years. She was Title 1 tutor in the reading lab for 6 years. Then she worked as an instructional assistant in kindergarten for 8 years.

Laura Taylor

Title I Tutor

Mrs. Taylor is an experienced tutor who is new to our Ressie community this year. She was one of our substitute teachers at the beginning of the year. We're glad to have her work with our reading lab students.

Instructional Assistant

Ms. Ladd is helping us with providing reading intervention lessons to our students. She still works with students one on one who need student support.

Mrs. Ferst served many years as one of our kindergarten assistants. This is her second year helping us in the reading lab.
