🚀 Pharmacy Technician Apprentice– Meritus Medical Center
Job Description:
The Pharmacy Technician apprentice learns under trained staff and supports safe and accurate medication distribution for both inpatient and outpatient settings. Working under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, this role blends technical tasks, inventory management, communication, and regulatory compliance. Technicians play a key part in ensuring patients receive the right medications at the right time, while maintaining high standards for safety, accuracy, and organization.
This role is well‑suited for someone who enjoys detail‑oriented work, structured processes, and being part of a fast‑moving clinical support team.
What a Typical Day Looks Like
A typical shift involves preparing medications, restocking automated dispensing systems, delivering medications to units, and supporting pharmacists with daily operations. The work is steady, task‑driven, and requires accuracy and focus.
Daily activities may include:
Preparing and packaging medications for dispensing
Delivering medications through the tube system or by hand to clinical units
Restocking Pyxis machines and maintaining CII Safe inventory
Processing patient discharges and transfers
Completing stock billing and inventory documentation
Checking medication expiration dates and ensuring stock is in good condition
Repackaging medications for unit‑dose distribution
Assisting with monthly clean room cleaning and disinfecting
Communicating with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare staff
Following state and federal regulations, including USP 795 and USP 800
Participating in process improvement initiatives
The environment is structured and regulated, with clear procedures and expectations for accuracy and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and deliver medications accurately and efficiently
Maintain medication inventory, including Pyxis and controlled substances
Support medication distribution workflows for inpatient and outpatient needs
Repackage medications and maintain unit‑dose systems
Perform stock checks, billing functions, and documentation
Follow all regulatory requirements and safety standards
Communicate clearly with pharmacists and clinical staff
Contribute to a collaborative, team‑oriented environment
