Reminder regarding:
Early Dismissals:
Picking up after 9:00am and before 3:30pm:
We strongly encourage parents not to check their child out on a regular basis at the end of the day. Calling students out for non-emergency issues causes classroom management problems.
Early dismissals are recorded in our student management/attendance system.
Any person checking out a child throughout the school day must sign his/her child out from the front office.
DRIVERS LICENSE/ID IS REQUIRED FOR ANYONE PICKING A STUDENT UP BEFORE THE END OF THE SCHOOL DAY
Early dismissals from the front office end promptly at 2:50pm. We will not dismiss from the office after this time.
In order for the school to release a student before the regularly scheduled dismissal time, the biological (listed on birth certificate) or adoptive court custodial parent, foster parent, or the legal guardian must submit a WRITTEN notice to the school on the date of the intended release.
(A stepparent is not considered an adoptive custodial parent or a legal guardian of a student unless they have legally adopted the student) A written notice must be provided for each early dismissal release (we cannot accept notes covering multiple days). The note must indicate the full name of the person to whom the student will be release to, the time of release, the signature of the legal guardian, and the reason for the release. The person to whom the student is to be released to MUST present proper identification at the time of release.
Although stepparents play an important role in a student’s life, a step parent who does not have legal custody cannot authorize their stepchild’s release before the regularly scheduled dismissal time to either themselves or authorize their stepchild’s release to others.
Emergency Contacts cannot pick students up early without a note from the parent (see below)
"Emergency Contacts" identified by the parent or legal guardian are adults who may assume temporary care of a child without further consent in the event of an emergency, illness, or accident when contacted by school staff because the parent/guardian cannot be reached.

A message from our Principal Mrs. Tamsyn Wilson:
Welcome to the start of an amazing school year! I am excited to be starting my third year as the Principal at BESTer. This year we will have three assistant principals at Bester. Ms. Sasse and Mrs. Roth who will be returning, and Mr. Orth who will be joining the team.
This year we will be focused on increasing student engagement and achievement through building a culture of hard work, high expectations, and by providing daily educational opportunities for students to grow and learn. This will be achieved as we also focus on creating a positive school climate partnered with our PBIS initiatives.
We are excited to announce that we will be utilizing a new core reading resource called CKLA that promises to excite and engage students in literacy through its rich use of high quality literature and content reading, its focus on writing and vocabulary development, and its specific and targeted skill-building in the primary grades.
We will also be working on modeling and reasoning in math as we enter year three with our core math resource, Illustrative Math (Bridges in Pre-K). Our students will be working on showing and explaining their math thinking and solution paths.
Bester is a Title I School. The goal of Title I is to provide extra instructional services, resources and activities that support students and families. At Back to School Night, you will receive a Brown Title I Folder that contains specific information about how the services we provide using Title I Funds. This folder also includes a parent compact for families to sign and return acknowledging that you received this information. If you have any questions about our Title I program at Bester, please reach out to our School Family Liaison, Ms. BJ Lushbaugh.
We are looking forward to an exciting school year!
