That Chickadee Feeling Written by Frank Glee, Illustrated by Sheila King
I have been reading "That Chickadee Feeling" since the first year of my teaching career. It is written by a local (to me) author and brings me joy each year reading it to my students. We have a nature centre in Waterloo, Ontario and I have taken several of my classes over the Winter months to feed the chickadees. It is a chance to make an authentic connection to the text, and could be an opportunity that students have not experienced before.
This book is about a boy who has a case of the Winter blahs. He can't think of anything to do and is very bored. His mom takes him into the forest, and together they discover that magical feeling of connecting with nature, while teaching about empathy and compassion. I highly recommend this book.
