Pet Peeves & Persuasion

Students review several NYTimes Complaint Box Articles for specific features, such as tone, hook, and persuasive techniques. They then use what they see in the model articles to craft their own Complain Box article on the Pet Peeve of their choosing. This unit allows students to share their on voice in their writing to attempt to persuade fellow students that their pet peeve is the most annoying of all.

The summation of the unit is a written response adhering to the following guidelines:

CCRE-ELA Part 2 Writing from Sources: Argument (English 10 Module 1 Summative: Pet Peeve Response)

Task: Write a 1 ½ -2 page pet peeve essay

Requirements:

  • 1 ½ - 2 pages, typed, double-spaced, 12 pt. Times New Roman font
  • Outline (on reverse side)
  • MLA heading with name and page numbers on each page
  • Two - three examples to support your position on your peeve
  • Use descriptive language to help your readers understand why this peeve is so disturbing to you
  • Use a persuasive tone to help convince your readers that this behavior must stop
