The diagram to the right shows how quarters and trimesters overlap for 6th grade Health/PE this year. Many students were confused at the change of the quarter that we weren't switching from PE to Health yet, so I made a visual to explain it to them. Please let me know if you or your student have any questions about this. ⇢
This year, your student will be rotating Physical Education and Health classrooms 3 times to ensure that all middle school students (6th - 7th - 8th) have an equal opportunity to learn in each classroom space (Fitness Room, Gym, Health Classroom).
Feel free to look over the calendar so you and your student will know when to expect a change in classrooms and activities. This year, 6th Grade will begin the school year in the Fitness Room, followed by lessons in the Health Room, and concluding the year in the Gym.
When your student is in the Fitness Room or the Gym, appropriate PhysEd shoes are required every day. When they are in Health, they will need to bring a charged Chromebook (or charger with them) and reading material of their choice. See Expectations for more details.
This position statement from SHAPE America aligns with my philosophy for playing dodgeball in Physical Education. SHAPE America is the Society of Health and Physical Educators - the national professional organization for PhysEd teachers in America.
"The goal of physical education is to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity."
