Italian 1
This is an introductory level course in Italian. In this course students will develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in Italian while introducing them to Italian language and culture. Students will be able to:
Provide basic information in Italian about themselves, their families, interests, likes and dislikes, and daily activities.
Participate in simple conversation on everyday topics such as weather, meeting new people, school, and shopping.
Read authentic texts on familiar topics, understand the main idea, and identify supporting details( e.g. menus, signs, train schedules, etc.)
Write letters requesting and providing general information.
Use and understand essential vocabulary related to everyday life (e.g. days of week, colors, numbers, months, seasons, telling time, stores, family members, etc.)
Write with grammatical accuracy.
Speak Italian with accurate pronunciation to be comprehensible to a native speaker of Italian.
Listen and comprehend short passages related to thematic situations.
The course concludes with the World Language Checkpoint A Exam in Italian. Students must pass both the course and the Checkpoint A exam to earn 1 credit. This credit will appear on his/her high school transcript. This course is also used to determine eligibility for the World Language Honor Society. Students will continue with levels 2-5 at the high school.
Spanish 1- 8th Grade
Spanish 1
This is an introductory course in Spanish. Through reinforcement and a variety of techniques, students will develop and expand skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing while introducing them to different cultures from Spanish speaking countries. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
