PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The elementary social studies program introduces students to the basic concepts and thinking skills needed to be successful 21st Century learners. The program emphasizes vertical articulation so that skills taught in one grade are expanded upon the succeeding school year. There is also an emphasis placed on interdisciplinary instruction so that the content learned in social studies can be applied in the students' literacy block. To do this, the district utilizes the Putnam-North Westchester BOCES Integrated Social Studies/ELA program. It provides teachers with a comprehensive, engaging and rigorous curriculum that teaches both content and skills.
