Virtual School

Priority tasks are required in order to ensure you have met the basic understandings needed before teaching virtually. 

Recommended tasks are things you may want to try in order to enhance both your teaching practice, and student learning, during a virtual learning scenario. 

Priority

❏ Confirm your camera and audio work with the platforms you use (Zoom, Quicktime, Seesaw, Photobooth, Chrome). If they do not, please go to a Technology Integrator or the IT office for help.

❏ ES only - Practice creating Learning Activities in Seesaw and providing feedback on journal entries. 

❏    Choose a screencasting platform and try it out. Recommended platforms are Screencastify (with Chrome extension) and Quicktime (Mac app). Practice narrating a slideshow or recording your written explanations in real time.

❏ Create an account on Zoom and try using it with a colleague. Practice the five essential skills listed below with at least one other person in Zoom.

• Scheduling a meeting

• Joining a meeting

• Sharing your screen

• Troubleshooting audio

• Setting chat/mute parameters for participants

• Recording a meeting and later sharing it with the students

❏   Review “essential” standards of your courses to focus on would be important

❏  Ensure students can access learning platforms from home and have necessary textbook/novels.

❏ Draft how you might structure a day/week of online learning. Take a look at the schedule examples HERE.

❏ Explore Flipgrid - a video sharing platform that enables classroom discussion and video responses. Here is a great getting started guide for teachers.

❏ Create a Padlet account and explore how you might share resources with students, as well as enable them to collaborate and communicate as a class.

❏ Consider making a list of video conferencing expectations for students and teachers. Here are some examples created by other schools. You may also want to establish when your office hours will be and how you might communicate that to students.
