How many teams will there be?
There will be 5 Teams in 6th grade. Those teams are Silver, Gold, Blue, Green, and Orange
Will my friends be on my same team?
It's possible that you may end up on the same team as your friends. However, the great thing about 6th grade is that you get to meet new friends and classmates from all different elementary schools. You'll get to make many new friends on your team your 6th grade year.
How often do we interact with students from other teams?
You'll see students from other teams in many different areas of the school. On the bus, in the cafeteria, in the hallways, in your encore classes, and in many other places as well.
Can I sit where ever I want or do I have an assigned seat?
For the first few weeks of school you will have an assigned seat for lunch. After everyone gets the hang of how we get our lunch and properly dispose of garbage we will have the chance to mix up where we sit. It's still expected that we show our Trojan PRIDE in the cafeteria at all times.
What lunch options are available?
We usually have two different options for entrees. If you don't like any of the options available, there is also a Bento Box option as well which could include a sandwich or a salad.
Can I have a snack in my classes?
You may have a snack in some of your classes. It's important that you ask your teacher what kind of snacks are appropriate and allowed in class. We want to make sure no one has any allergies to certain foods.
Is there recess?
There is no recess in middle school. There may be times when your teacher will take you outside to play but there is no scheduled recess time.
How do we know what classes to go to on the first day of school?
Many teachers and staff members will be able to help you figure out your schedule and what classes you should be in. The biggest thing on the first day is to remember not to panic. The teachers and staff members in the building will help you get to where you need to go and everything is going to be alright. In no time you'll be an expert in navigating the school.
What will my daily schedule be like?
In a day you are going to have 7 class periods. 5 of those classes will be core classes within your team (Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Math, and Advisory/Flex). You will also have 2 encore classes in a day. These consist of Phy. Ed, Music, Art, or Tech Ed. You will also have lunch around the middle part of your day. What time you have certain classes will differ from one person to the next but rest assured you'll learn a lot.
What time can I get to school in the morning?
The school doors will open to students at 7:45. If students arrive to school early because of a parent drop off they will sit in the cafeteria and can work on homework. Once the first bell rings at 8:50 students can make their way to their first class of the day after dropping off their materials in their locker.
Do I have a homeroom teacher?
Yes, each student will have an advisory teacher. This teacher is who you will get a lot of important information from throughout the day. You'll spend an extra class period with this teacher in Advisory/Flex.
Is there a lot of homework?
There is definitely homework assigned in 6th grade. It can seem overwhelming at first, but using work time wisely and asking for help from your teachers usually will limit the amount of homework you have on a day.
How many lockers will I have?
You will have 2 lockers in school. One if your Phy Ed. Locker and one is your school locker. The school locker is long and is usually by your classes. This one is where you can put your backpack, books, coats, and anything else you would bring on a school day. Your Phy. Ed locker will usually hold your athletic clothes, personal hygiene items, and possibly a change of clothes.
What if I don't remember my combination?
Don't panic! Your teachers or a staff member can help you find your combination so you can get into your locker.
Can I decorate my locker?
You can decorate your locker to make it more personal to you. However, it's never a bad thing to reduce clutter in your locker. Basic things to help keep you organized are always encouraged but going overboard can sometimes be more of a hassle than it is helpful.
Is there a dress code?
There is a dress code. If you are interested in reading more about our dress code you can find more information on page 25 of our student handbook.
Can I have my cell phone in class?
You can not have your cell phone in class. At Central we keep our cell phones Off and Away all day. If your parent needs to get a hold of you they can call the front office and they can get ahold of you. To learn more about the rule you can read here.
Are there any sports or clubs to join?
Yes, there are a couple of opportunities for our 6th grade students to sign up for. For more information about what sports and activities you can join check out the school website.
