Students in 6th grade will be placed on one of 5 teams at the beginning of the school year. Students on the same team share the same 4 core teachers in their core classes (Science, Math, Language Arts, and Social Studies). Students will also have advisory and flexible learning time with one of their team teachers. Below you can see the 5 teams we have at Central Middle School. Teams of teachers are still being put together so check back at a later date to see which teachers belong to which team.
In 6th grade you will also have what we call Encore classes. These are classes outside of your 4 core classes that you will learn and enjoy. Click on the class name to learn more about each one.

6th Grade Band Students need their instrument and Accent on Achievement Book 1 to start the year. French Horn and Tuba players rent a school instrument and will receive information the first week of school.
In addition to learning how to play their instruments, 6th Grade Band Students will also learn music theory, composition, history and appreciation. Performance remains a main focus when learning to play an instrument. Students will perform with other students and for their families.
Students will be placed in beginning or continuing orchestra based on their experience. We will help students develop the skills necessary for playing a string instrument alone and in an ensemble. Students will use Essential Elements for Strings Book 1. Make sure you have your instrument, shoulder rest, rosin, method book, and music stand ready to go.

Students will need their iPad for all choir class learning. Canvas will be used for all information, assignments, and directions.
In addition to singing, students will be learning elements of music theory, solfege, sight singing, composition, musical elements, and music appreciation.
In 6th grade Art, students will explore the world of visual art through the exploration of different materials, processes, and art history. Students will build on their knowledge of the elements of art, principles of design, and color theory. Throughout this 9 week course, students will develop and practice creative thinking and problem solving skills centered around four main categories: create/ make, artistic foundations, responding, and presenting.
Our Technology Education course is designed for students to develop and expand their knowledge through the use of technology, innovation, design, and engineering experiences. We do this by providing opportunities to learn new concepts through hands-on, minds-on activities that create well rounded learners. We promise that we are on your team. You will have the tools and space to learn, while we challenge you! We care about your goals, and we will work diligently to help you understand the way you learn best and give you time to process. We will push you to LEARN, GROW, and REFLECT so you can find success. We are excited for a fun and challenging year and are always here to help you.
Students will be introduced to basic Spanish vocabulary and grammar skills. They will learn some verb forms and work on proper sentence structure. Topics will include greetings, good-byes, activities, likes, dislikes, personality traits, classes, and schedules.
Physical Education and Health is a comprehensive program designed to keep students active and to learn healthy life skills to promote health and personal development. Throughout this course, students will participate in a mixture of in classroom learning as well as participate in an active sport setting.
