Now before I continue on the statement that I wrote in the title, you probably don’t know what the word ameliorate means so let me explain. The word might look big and scary and complicated but in reality, the definition is not that hard. The word ameliorate means to make something bad or unsatisfactory better. 

What I mean by the title is characters from movies, TV shows, etc, that start off bad and end up coming around and turning good. These characters help influence the story and move it forward. It can make the story more interesting and add more tension to the character that turns good and the characters that once knew the old version of that character.

Not every story has a character that turns bad to good. And those stories are still good, not every story needs that type of character. Sometimes those characters are forced into the story and it does not help it. Those forced characters can make the plot confusing and too complicated. But, some stories need those characters so the plot will come full circle and it will make sense. 

The characters in those stories are shown working on the wrong side. You can see the characters feel like what they are doing is right. They are shown acting like they are on the right side even though the watcher or reader of the story knows they are on the wrong side. 

When a character turns good they usually learn it in an important moment in the story. It is usually the same moment the main character learns something. But that is not the only case. It could be an uneventful moment for the main character but it is for that character that is going through the realization that what they have done this entire time was wrong.

Each character deals with it differently. Some may take it easy. They may have known something the entire time but it is the time the audience realizes their good side. Meanwhile, other characters may not take it in as easily. It could be a major change for these characters. After all this time they realize the dark side to their work, can be very overwhelming and emotional. But, no matter what all of these characters turn good and beat the forces of evil.
