Sanitation check of kits
Set up to apply artificial nail in liquid and powder on the right hand and tips with UV gel on the left hand. (90 minutes)
10 minute break
Set up to apply polish and nail art portion of the contest. (75 minutes)
Right hand should be done in all red polish.
Left hand should be done with (flat) nail art. No jewels, beads, feathers, etc.
Students should clean up everything and pack up kits.

Purpose: To evaluate each contestant's preparation for employment and to recognize outstanding students for excellence and professionalism in the field of nail care.
Clothing Requirements: (at state there will be more requirements; see National Technical Standards for more information)
Clothing Requirements:
White shirt or white polo
Black slacks
Black leather work or dress closed toe shoes (Wearing socks or hose is no longer required.)
*Note: White cosmetology smock or apron can be worn
Also:
Students should dress professionally.
Students should NOT have holes in their clothing or inappropriate language on t shirts or sweatshirts.
Students should NOT have any logo or identifying writing on any apparel worn during the competition.
Students can wear SkillsUSA clothing, but it is not required.
Models for Nail Care
Note: Model clothing should include business appropriate white dress shirt or polo, black dress slacks, and black work or dress shoes (non-skid and completely enclosed, no open-toe or open-heel). ADDED 1/23/24
A resume is NOT required for the Regional contest.
Each contestant must bring a model.
Equipment and Materials:
The technical committee will supply the following:
Waterless hand sanitizer
Disinfectant jar (for implements with disinfection solution)
Technical guidelines for the specific applications required to be performed
Plastic bags for disposal and refuse
One electrical outlet per contestant
The contestant will need the supply the following items:
Models (must be student members dressed appropriately; see above)
Safety glasses for contestant and model
Clean terry cloth towels in standard salon size (no holes or stains).
At nationals you will be required to bring white towels.
Pedicure basin with disposable liner
Water dispenser (optional)
All items to complete a basic pedicure: lotion, masks, scrubs and/or callus removers must be from the same professional manufacturer
Any items necessary for a mock client consultation on natural nail care services
All items to complete FOUR sculptured acrylic nails (Five will be required at Nationals).
Dappen dishes must have covers;
Monomer, polymer and primer must be from the same manufacturer
Two or more of the four basic colors (pink, white, clear or natural) must be used to complete two-tone/French manicure sculpted nails.
Paper towels or tissues (can be mini or travel size)
Gel polish, temporary or no-light gels may not be used
Dark red crème lacquer/polish
All items necessary to complete flat-paint nail art application.
Medium choices: acrylic paints, polishes/lacquers, colored powders (acrylic and dip), gel polish, rhinestones sizes 20ss and under, glitters and dust, and adhesives, i,e., gel top coats/glue.
NOTE: No pre-prepared items can be used; items are limited to those intended

Written description of the nail art theme.
This must be presented prior to the beginning of the contest.
This theme description should be typed and placed in a plastic sleeve.
Include a photo
Portable kit organizer
Manicure table lamp and electrical extension cord (optional)
Gel light lamp (regional competition)

Nail art accessories: gems, skins, feathers, rhinestones bigger than 20ss, threads, fabrics, foils, beads, tapes, jewelry, air brushing, decals/stencils or cast moldings.
Free-edge or ½ well tips
Tip blenders
Top coat or base coats (EXCEPT FOR NAIL ART APPLICATIONS ONLY)
Electric files/drills
Oil, lotion and buffing creme
Knowledge Performance (different than National contest):
There will NOT be a written knowledge test for this contest.
There will most likely be a written knowledge test at the state and national contest levels.
