Sanitation check of kits
Set up and perform facial (15 minutes cleanse and massage)
Finish facial (30 minutes)
Sanitation of area (15 minutes)
10 minute break
Daytime makeup. (45 minutes)
10 minute break; models should remove makeup if needed
Fantasy look - Doll Face (60 minutes)
Sanitation and pack up kits.
This may not contain all necessary information. Refer to the National Technical Standards for a full description of the possible contest components.
No CELL phones or other electronic devices not approved by a competition's committee are NOT allowed in the competition area.
Resume not required at regional contest.
This year’s theme (2023-2024) is: Doll Face
Observers will NOT be allowed for this contest due to the lack of space.
Clothing Requirements:
White shirt or white polo
Black slacks
Black leather work or dress shoes (Wearing socks or hose is no longer required.)
*Note: White cosmetology smock or apron can be worn
Also:
Students should dress professionally.
Students should NOT have holes in their clothing or inappropriate language on t shirts or sweatshirts.
Students should NOT have any logo or identifying writing on any apparel worn during the competition.
Students can wear SkillsUSA clothing, but it is not required.
Equipment and Materials:
The technical committee will supply the following:
Tables (for products) and chair (for model)
Water
The contestant will need the supply the following items:
Nail Models (must be student members dressed appropriately)
Model clothing should include business appropriate white dress shirt or polo, black dress slacks, and black work or dress shoes (non-skid and completely enclosed, no open-toe or open-heel). No jewelry. Models must have a clean, cosmetic-free face. Jewelry may be included on the
model only during the prop application time in the fantasy portion of the competition. (updated 1/23/24)
Hair must be pulled away from the face
Face must be clean and cosmetic free
No earrings, facial piercings or necklaces (except in the fantasy portion of the contest)
(At Nationals, Models are not required to take the written test or submit a resume.)
Written description of the theme for the fantasy makeup portion.
Limited to one page typed in a legible font and contained within a plastic sleeve.
One 8" X 10" color photograph of the completed competitor work of the fantasy makeup contained within a plastic sleeve.
This should be presented before the competition time begins.
Portable kit organizer
Bowl for water to be used during competition - New this year for regional.
All items for daytime make up
All products necessary for a basic facial and massage skill.
Cleanser
Toner or freshener
Moisturizer
Exfoliator
Mask
All necessary product applicators such as the following:
Spatulas
Cotton swabs
Fan and mask brushes
Cotton 4 X 4 pads or sponges
Tissues
Mascara wand
Makeup brushes
All applicators must be disposable or sanitized.
False eyelash kit
Lashes (both strip and tab forms)
Adhesives
Lash application tools
Alcohol wipes and sanitizers
Minimum of six clean terry cloth towels in standard salon size (no holes or stains).
At Nationals you will be required to bring white towels.
Headband
Proper draping supplies for model
Sealable plastic bags for sanitation and soiled linens and towels
Latex-free gloves (at least two pair)
Paper towels or tissues (can be mini or travel size)
Decontamination supplies for hands, equipment and implements (must be EPA approved, e.g., [but not limited to] Barbicide, Utronics, Clorox wipes).
Stainless steel bowl for water (1 ½ quart minimum size)
Blood spill kit with a properly labeled biohazard bag.
Make note that there will be a DEMONSTRATION TASK at Nationals: fantasy hand nail art. See National Technical Standards for more details. This will not be conducted at the regional level of competition.
