Leadership Contest - Job Skills Demonstration A - 2021-2022
Purpose: to evaluate each contestant's ability to demonstrate and explain an entry-level technical skills used in the occupational area for which he or she is training.
Clothing Requirements at the Regional Competition:
Students should dress professionally.
Students should NOT have holes in their clothing or inappropriate language on t shirts or sweatshirts.
Students should NOT have any logo or identifying writing on any apparel worn during the competition.
Students can wear SkillsUSA clothing, but it is not required.
Eligibility:
Open to active SkillsUSA members enrolled in career and technical programs with career objectives that are included in the SkillsUSA Championships official contests.
The technical committee will supply the following:
A timekeeper
A table and one chair
An extension cord and electrical outlet
A space of at least 8' X 12'
The contestant must supply all other materials to compete in this contest.
Additional Information for the Regional Competition:
A resume is NOT required for the regional contest.
No observers will be allowed to talk or gesture to contestants.
No videos, pictures or note-taking in the room. All electronics must be turned off or contestant will be disqualified.
There is no written knowledge test for this contest.
Presenting of an occupational skill accompanied by a clear explanation of the topic through the use of examples, experiments, displays or practical questions.
Details to help as you prepare for this contest:
Any skill may be demonstrated if it is related to the occupational program of the contestant.
An actual technical skill must be performed as opposed to an illustrated talk.
The demonstration will be at least 5 minutes, but less than 7 minutes.
Penalties of 50 points will be deducted for each 30 seconds (or fraction thereof) under five minutes or 30 seconds (or fraction thereof) over 7 minutes.
The time will begin when the contestant begins speaking.
The Time Keeper will signal the speaker at five minutes, six minutes, and seven minutes.
Contestants will be allowed three minutes to set up the demonstration and three minutes to clear the demonstration area (8 X 12).
Penalties of -50 points will be deducted for each 30 seconds over (or fraction thereof) the three-minute allowance.
Demonstration time (limit) will start when the demonstration begins. The time keeper will signal the speaker at 5 minutes, 6 minutes, and 7 minutes.
The presenter must remain in the demonstration area/box. Points will be deducted for any violation of demonstration materials, easel, presenter, model, and/or model's chair that are outside the 8' X 12' demonstration area/box. (This will be taped off.)
One 110 volt (15 amp) electrical outlet with an extension cord and one 30" X 96" table, one chair and one easel will be provided. NOTE: The presenter and their demonstration material MUST remain within the demonstration area/box.
Visuals are allowed, but must be created by the contestant.
No sound devices of any kind may be used to transmit audible words, sound or music.
No compressed air or gas permitted.
No material or apparatus that may pose a threat to a fire or explosion.
No pressurized aerosol cans of any kind are permitted.
The contestant may NOT mention or display his or her name, school, city or state.
This is an individual contest, but the contestant may have help setting up and tearing down or as a model (this cannot be an Advisor, but MUST BE a SkillsUSA member).
Any presentation assistance, coaching, or signaling may disqualify the contestant.
An advisor may NOT serve as an assistant.
The presentation assistant/helper must be a SkillsUSA member.
The contestant will not have any interaction with the judge or time keeper.
Tie Breaker - highest score in the following areas:
Explanation is complete.
Demonstration is interesting.
Demonstration is organized.
