Here's what we did today:
Reviewed proper ready and playing positions
Reviewed the two new notes on the D string: E and F# (see last week's post to review how to play these, including helpful videos!)
Reviewed Hot Cross Buns & Mary Had a Little Lamb
Added one new note: G! This is played as follows:
Violin/viola: 3 fingers down, last finger covering the BLUE tape on the D string
Cello: 4 fingers down, last finger covering the BLUE tape on the D string
Bass: Open G string! Not a new note for you.
Used this new note to learn a new song: We Will Rock You! (attached below)
If the new notes feel confusing or difficult, DON'T WORRY! See below for some pictures to remind you of where the left hand needs to go. You can also look at the golden box at the top of page 6 in your book! Or, CLICK HERE to review the videos from last week!!
Before next class, please practice the following:
Try to practice the pages in the binder using our new notes: Hot Cross Buns and Mary Had a Little Lamb (review), and We Will Rock You.
Try to complete the writing activity on the "We Will Rock You" page.
BONUS: check out pages 6-7 in the book, which use these notes!
This is the correct shape of the violin/viola hand position. Notice that her thumb is just peeking over the side of the fingerboard and is sitting next to the first tape, (which is red on your instruments).
Notice also that the wrist is down and relaxed.
On the left is the correct position for cello and bass players. Notice that her thumb is hidden on the back of the neck.
Now compare it to the incorrect position on the right. See the difference?
