WE HAVE A “PRACTICALLY PERFECT” OPPORTUNITY FOR BUDDING ACTORS AND ACTRESSES IN WAYLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS
The two characters (Jane and Michael) play ages 11 and 8 - opportunity available to Grades 4 through 12.
The Wayland High School Theater Ensemble is producing Disney’s Mary Poppins this Fall and seeks Wayland Public Schools children to play the significant roles of Jane and Michael Banks. WHSTE is holding auditions for students who are interested in these roles.
Students cast as Jane and Michael will attend rehearsal 3 to 4 days a week after school until 5:45 and some Saturdays in addition to all of tech week and performances. They will take on a large responsibility, as they are required to learn a large number of lines, choreography, and music. Students not cast as Michael or Jane could be considered for a small-to-modest children's ensemble - and be featured in two numbers in the show. They would only have to attend two Saturday rehearsals. Tech week rehearsals and performances.
Auditions: Wednesday September 2 at 6:30PM – Wayland High School Auditorium. To register for an audition, please email Aidan O'Hara directly: aidan_ohara@waylandps.org by Sunday, August 30th.
When we receive your email, you will be asked to fill out an online audition form and receive audition materials. At the audition students will be asked to prepare a song from the show (provided), dance, and perform readings from the script as necessary. Not all students who audition will be cast in the production.
IMPORTANT DATES: (Again, Michael and Jane would be called 3-4 times a week, beginning September 14.)
Saturday 10/24- 10AM-2PM
Saturday 11/7- 10AM-2PM
Tech Week: Nov 16, 17, 18 - Approximately 3:30-6:30 PM; exact times subject to change.
Performances: November 19 and 20 at 7:30pm; November 21 at 5pm; and November 22 at 1pm
Female, plays age 11
The older Banks child. Bright, curious, imaginative, and outspoken, Jane has a strong sense of justice and isn't afraid to challenge the adults around her. Though independent and sometimes mischievous, she deeply loves her family and grows in empathy and maturity through Mary Poppins' influence. Requires a confident young actor with strong acting, singing, and movement skills.
Male, plays age 8
Jane's younger brother. Spirited, adventurous, and endlessly curious, Michael is playful, impulsive, and full of wonder. He looks up to his sister but is eager to forge his own path. Beneath his boundless energy is a warm-hearted child who longs for his father's attention. Requires a charismatic actor with comedic timing, strong acting ability, and solid singing and movement skills.
