Hi 2nd Graders!
We are coming to the end of the year and this is when you get to think about taking a string instrument in 3rd grade! For your lesson this week you will listen and watch Ms. Tandon and I explain your options for next year. You will also get to see some professional musicians play the violin, viola, cello and bass! I hope you will find an instrument that you will enjoy playing next year! It is a really exciting opportunity and we hope that you will join us in strings in the fall!

CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS-MOVEMENT LESSON
Hi 2nd Graders!
Some second graders created a “Springtime Composition” last week! Great job!
Not everyone had a chance to complete that lesson so we would like to give you another week to do it. If you created a “Springtime Composition” last week, then please choose either “Springtime Composition #2” or “Grow A Garden Composition #1 or #2” for this week.
Here are the directions.
Click the links below and print out the paper if you can, or just draw it out yourself!
You will notice that there are 8 boxes and 8 spring/garden related pictures.
Cut the pictures out and glue them in the 8 boxes in any order you'd like!
Decide which rhythm matches the picture:
Look at the example below, then draw the correct notes underneath each picture.
You can even come up with your own spring or garden pictures if you want!
Color the pictures when you are done!
Find an instrument to practice your composition on, and perform it for a family member! Be creative- maybe you can use pots and pans or other things in your kitchen as an instrument! Ask an adult for help and find something together!

Hi 2nd graders!
Last week, we continued learning about "Peter and the Wolf" and got to watch the movie and see how the story plays out! It is May and finally starting to feel like spring! This week, you will get to compose your own music using rhythms inspired by springtime!
Here are the directions of how to complete the "Springtime Composition". You can also watch the video my friend Ms. Pohl, Happy Hollow music teacher, made below!
Print out the paper below if you can, or just draw it out yourself! You will notice that there are 8 boxes and 8 spring related pictures.
Cut the pictures out and glue them in the 8 boxes in any order you'd like!
Decide which rhythm matches the picture (du-de or du?) and draw the correct music notes underneath. There is an example below that you can use to check your work if you are not sure which rhythm to put.
Color the pictures when you are done!
Find an instrument to practice your composition on, and perform it for a family member! Be creative- maybe you can use pots and pans or other things in your kitchen as an instrument :) Ask an adult for help and find something together!
***BONUS CHALLENGE: Can you come up with your own springtime objects, draw pictures of them, and write the rhythms to go with them? Remember, each box can only have 1 beat of music inside! Can you think of a springtime object that uses the rhythm "du-ta-de-ta"? My idea is "picnic basket"
After you are done, cool down by listening to the story "Risseldy Rosseldy." I'd love to hear your creations! Feel free to email me a video of you performing your composition if you'd like! Kimberley_Davis@wayland.k12.ma.us
Have a fantastic week!
Ms. Davis

Hi 2nd graders!
I hope you had a nice Spring Break! Last week, we learned a little bit about "Peter and the Wolf". We learned that there are FOUR main instrument families in an orchestra. They are Brass, Woodwind, Strings, and Percussion. We discussed the characters in "Peter and the Wolf" and learned that all of the characters are represented by different instruments! Let's continue learning more about the story:
Check out a video by Ms. Pohl, the Happy Hollow music teacher. She's going to show you a special instrument!
Watch the whole "Peter and the Wolf" movie!
Show what you know - answer the questions below about the story :)
I can't wait to read your responses! Have fun!

Answer the Movie Questions!
Hi 2nd graders!
Check out the videos below for this week's music class:
Warm-up your voice with the slide whistle
Watch my video about "Peter and the Wolf." In the story, each character is represented by a different instrument. Instruments of the orchestra belong to different families. The four instrument families are Strings, Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussion. Think of some instruments. Can you guess which families they belong to?
Cool down by listening to me sing "The Crabfish"
Have fun!
