Tracking Progress In America
Throughout the 20th century, sports have allowed African Americans to display their black ability and black power. The sporting world was one of the first positive representations of and opportunities for African Americans in media. It provided a platform for athletes to become symbolic figures who publicized racial issues and ended stigma, specifically during the Civil Rights Movement.
