New Exhibitions at the African American History Museum

Directions and Requirements

Congratulations! You have been hired as a MUSEUM CURATOR at the African American History Museum, which opened in September of 2016. The museum has been generating a tremendous amount of interest from the public; therefore, several new exhibitions have opened. You have been asked to put together a curated exhibit for the museum, along with some highly trained a competent coworkers.

As the museum curator, you are being asked to create an exhibition that focuses on a particular facet of the Civil Rights Movement and beyond. The role of the museum curator is to research, collect, document and display objects. This allows visitors to the museum to explore a particular part of history in more depth.

To create the exhibition, you will RESEARCH the topic, IDENTIFY specific artifacts and PRESENT them to explain the topic to the museum visitor.

You will be allotted class time to work on your project. However, some components of the project will be accomplished outside of class, requiring you and your partner to collaborate efficiently and clearly.

Each page represents a specific "exhibit". Each exhibit needs a

(1) MINIMUM OF 8 CURATED ARTIFACTS

(2) 8 WRITTEN PLACARDS (BRIEF SUMMARIES OF THE ARTIFACTS)

(3) 1-2 PAGE 1.5 SINGLE SPACED OVERVIEW OF YOUR TOPIC, INCLUDING A THESIS

(4) THESIS: WHY YOUR TOPIC ILLUMINATES/HIGHLIGHTS THE OVERALL EXPERIENCES OF BLACK AMERICANS TO ACHIEVE EQUALITY AND EQUITY

(5) 1 "AUDIO TOUR" SCRIPT: TIES THE ARTIFACTS TOGETHER TO PRESENT A COHESIVE STO
