Gastreonligist and Hepatoligist
Hepatologists are a specialized doctor that mostly works on the liver and bile ducts. They use MRIs, CTs, or an ultrasound to diagnose people. Some Hepatologists specialize in end stage liver-disease and can make liver transplants. You should see a Hepatologist if you or your doctor thinks you have a liver disease.
A Gastroenterologist works with the liver and digestive track. They treat cancer, liver disease, heartburn, problems with the gallbladder, Chron's disease, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, internal bleeding, Celiac disease, and many others. A Gastroenterologist is likely the first person to discover if you have a GI cancer. They can also remove tumors in the GI tract and biliary system. There are around 20,000 Gastroenterologists in the U.S. You should go see a Gastroenterologist if your physician can't treat it or if you know you have a gastrointestinal condition and you want expert care for it.
