Student Meetings
Wausau East counselors are here to support students throughout their four years in highschool. Counselors are happy to meet with students regarding their progress at any point in the school year. Please see Mrs. Walters in the counseling office to schedule an appointment with your counselor.
Freshmen Conferences
In August, Counselors invite all their Freshmen for a group meet-and-greet with their counselor. Through this initial introduction, freshmen meet their assigned counselor and make a connection. Counselors will also host additional meetings to cover study skills, transitioning to high school, test prep and organization.
Sophomore Conferences
From November to January, counselors invite all Sophomore students and their parents to a formal Academic and Career Planning Conference. Families will receive a letter with their conference date and time. Conferences are typically scheduled during the school day when students have their resource periods. Accommodations for families that cannot meet during the school day can typically be made.
During these 40 minute conferences, we will discuss:
Course selection for junior and senior year
Graduation requirements, credit check and transcript review
Grade point average and class rank
Post-secondary options and planning
Xello Mathmaker career assessment results
Standardized testing
Junior Meetings
In May, counselors will meet with all Junior students to discuss their senior year schedule and ensure that graduation requirements will be met by the end of senior year. Juniors will receive an email inviting them to make an appointment with their counselor. Juniors should schedule their appointments during their resource periods.
During these 20-30 minute conferences, we will discuss:
Senior year schedule (and make changes if necessary)
Graduation requirements and transcript review
Grade point average and class rank
Standardized testing
Post-secondary options and planning (specifically, what should be done over summer break)
Senior Meetings
In September, counselors host a Senior Class meeting to discuss post-secondary options. We encourage you to set up an individual meeting with your counselor if you need additional assistance after this class meeting.
During this meeting, we will discuss:
Post-secondary options: World of Work, Military and College
GPA, class rank and ACT/SAT requirements
College application process
Requesting transcripts
Scholarships
Financial Aid
Other helpful resources for senior year
