It was established in 1973 as an educational advising service for all 26 campuses in the UW System and UW-Extension. Since that time, students of all ages, as well as parents and school counselors have been able to talk to an adviser toll-free (800-442-6459) to access a wide array of information on such topics: admission; financial aid; majors; residence life; and more. HELP is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Releases:

As a privilege to Juniors and Seniors at West, building administration may allow any student who has demonstrated a high level of maturity and personal responsibility to leave school premises for ONE CLASS PERIOD if they have a study hall scheduled during that period. Students given this privilege must have permission and must either leave campus or report to an administratively-assigned area. Parents may revoke this privilege for any reason, at any time.

Senior Information:

Counselors will meet with all seniors in small groups during the month of September to review services available in the Student Services Office and share information regarding post high school planning. Seniors are advised to have all university, college and technical college applications submitted by December 1. A transcript is always required for any college you apply to. The fee for each transcript is $5.00. Almost ALL universities and colleges have on-line applications you can submit along with the application fee paid by credit card. It is recommended that students keep a personal copy of all application materials. Please have your ACT score sent directly from ACT to each college you are applying to. Electronic submission of transcripts at www.parchment.com is the preferred method of requesting and sending transcripts. To set up an account, please see the directions on the Waukesha West website – Student Services section. If you have applied to a school and have been notified you are waitlisted, you may want to send a transcript after 1st semester. Once ordered, it will take you to a payment screen and you’ll pay the $5.00 by credit card on this site. Paper directions and paper transcripts are also available in Student Services.

Updated Child Labor Law- http://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/2017/related/acts/11

2017 Wisconsin Act 11 was signed by Governor Walker yesterday and published today, June 22, 2017. The effective date of this law is June 23, 2017. The law removes the requirement that 16- and 17-year-old minors obtain work permits. This law also changes the terminology and refers to the "employment of minors" instead of child labor.

What this means for you: Effective June 23, 2017,

  • 16- and 17-year-old minors do NOT have to obtain a work permit prior to beginning work. You will no longer issue work permits for minors ages 16 or 17.
  • The law makes no changes to the requirements for minors younger than 16. Minors younger than 16 will need to obtain a work permit prior to beginning work. You will continue to issue work permits as usual for minors younger than 16.
  • This law makes no changes to any other child labor provisions. There are no changes to the maximum hours or times of days that minors younger than 16 may work, or the types of work that minors may perform.
