The Crusades are a military expedition that started in the early 11th century and was organized by the Western European Christians in response to centuries of Muslim wars of expansion. Their objectives were to help Byzantium retake control of the Holy Land Jerusalem and the eastern Mediterranean. The Muslims conquered about two-thirds of the Christian world at the end of the 11th century. The Crusades attempted to stop this expansion and were initially successful, between 1095, when the First Crusade was launched, and 1291, when the Latin Christians were finally expelled from their kingdom in Syria, there were numerous expeditions to the Holy Land, Spain, and even the Baltic, but the continued growth of the Islamic state eventually offset these gains.
The first crusade was the Crusade that has the biggest success, the Christianity world retake the holy land and a part of the Asia minor
The second Crusade was a total failure for the Eastern Europe, they lost the holy land that they have just gotten and retreat back to Europe
The Third Crusade was a clarion call for the counterattack by Europe, Under the leadership of Lion Heart Richard I, the army almost successfully retook the holy land.
The later Crusades had only one success the Sixth Crusade which controlled Jerusalem for a short time. At last in 1291, the last stronghold of Europe in the East fell, and the Crusade Finally Ended, from 1096 to 1291, the Holy Land was still under the control of the Muslims.
