Gum chewing has always been frowned upon at SMS because of some careless kids who leave their chewed gum under desks and on floors, but recently students have been coming up with more creative ways to use wrappers when they can sneak a piece of this chewy treat.
Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade have started a trend of chewing gum and then using the wrappers to turn mundane everyday things into shiny works of art.Â
Some students have begun a trend with these silvery wrappers, instead of using the wrapper for the intended purpose, students have begun using the wrappers to customize intricate designs on their stuff. Classmates simply peel apart the silver layer from the pasty white one, then place it on top of what they want to put it on, and lastly apply pressure to the wrapper to finish off the process. When interviewed, seven out of ten people admitted to following the trend and giving their chromebooks a makeover. In an additional survey of some seventh grade students, 60% claimed that they had already gum-wrappered their chromebooks, and 50% said that they didn't regret it and would do it again, believing the trend is harmless. While these effects are not permanent, it's a fun way to decorate and customize your school supplies. While no one really knows if this gum-wrapper technique is truly allowed, students continue to do it anyway. Whether it is just to follow the trend, or the fact that they truly like the way it looks, this gum wrapper craze has been growing in participants here at Swift Middle School, and it is anticipated that even more will join the ranks in upcoming weeks until there is a big crackdown.
Hopefully students will spit out their gum in the trash so they don't ruin the gum wrapper trend for the whole school.
