Meet Ms. Michael

Thank you for visiting this page! I have been teaching music in Watertown for 24 years: for the first 17 years as Strings Director and for the past seven years as Music Teacher at John Trumbull Primary School. I grew up in the Midwest, attended Oberlin College, and then travelled all the way across the country to Victoria, British Columbia in order to continue studying with my wonderful violin teacher. I received my Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance, and my Master of Music in Violin Performance from the University of Victoria. After I graduated I trained to become a Suzuki Violin teacher, and taught at the Suzuki Institute of Seattle and the Vancouver Academy of Music. I even travelled to Japan, to watch Dr. Suzuki teach! After living in the Pacific Northwest (truly the most beautiful place on earth) for 12 years, I decided it was time to be closer to family, so I moved back East and taught with the Hartt Suzuki Program. Eventually, I decided to become certified to teach in the public schools, and I am so very glad I did because that is what led me to Watertown and its wonderful families! I loved teaching Strings, but when a position at JTPS opened up I decided to return to my first love, which is working with very young children. It is my sincere belief that music must be an integral part of education at all levels, but especially during early childhood. I believe that young children should experience quality music of all styles, including classical music.

Outside of school I love reading (especially novels set in the English countryside, like those of Miss Read and Angela Thirkell), cooking, gardening, and listening to music. I am also the doting mom to 3 dogs and 5 cats! My pets are all rescues-adopt, adopt, adopt!!!
