Dear Students and Parents,
Here are some key things that you need to know in order to understand how we tackle 8th grade social studies in my classroom. Below you will find all kinds of helpful information.
I'm looking forward to a great year of adventuring through U.S. history with you!
Grading:
SUMMATIVE (40%): Assessments - Essays/Projects/Tests/Quizzes
FORMATIVE (35%): Reading & Writing Response Assignments
CLASSWORK (20%):
HOMEWORK (5%):
Assessments:
Written essays and projects will have announced due dates in advance. They will come at the end of a unit of study to show the student’s understanding.
Announced written tests will also be used to check student’s understanding of material from a unit.
Quizzes will be announced and will help students prepare for written assessments and projects that will show their understanding of the material.
Reading/Writing Assignments:
Class readings may be followed by a written response to show your understanding of the material. In class or homework written responses or reflections will also be used to show your understanding of the material covered in class.
Classwork & Homework:
Classwork will be a short response to any activity in class. We may not have a Homework assignment everyday, but you should review any notes from class each night.
When students are absent, they should see me for any missed work and to get any notes from class.
Classroom Dynamics:
All students are expected to participate in class by responding to questions, joining in classroom discussions, asking questions and showing they are prepared for class with the required materials.
