Students enrolled in the Health and Wellness course will develop the skills necessary to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Students will gain an understanding of the relationship between physical, mental, emotional, and social health. Students will also identify the potential short and long-term effects to a person’s lifestyle when unhealthy decisions are made. Wellness will build on skills and concepts taught in previous health classes in order to expand students’ knowledge and ensure student readiness to make independent, educated, health-related decisions. Topics include: decision making, goal setting, relationships and social health, mental and emotional health, consumer health, nutrition, substance abuse and prevention, body systems, and sexual health. Students will also learn about physical fitness, and practice various types of physical activity each week throughout the semester.
