Meet the Counselor!
Erica Kellum, Professional School Counselor
Hi everyone! This is my 4th year as the school counselor at Irving Elementary. I graduated with my Masters in School Counseling in 2021 from the University of Iowa and immediately moved up to Waterloo after accepting the position to work at Irving.
I discovered my passion for school counseling when I was in undergrad pursuing a teaching degree as well as a psychology degree. I felt like something was missing, but I couldn't figure out how to mesh the two fields together. When I finally heard about school counseling, I knew immediately that this was my dream career.
I absolutely love being an elementary school counselor because of the significant role I play in students' development. I view elementary counseling as the foundational piece that middle and high school academic, identity, and career development stem from. I am motivated and encouraged by the progress these students make during their time in elementary school and can't wait to keep building relationships in the school and community!
