The Hour of Code event is here! Students in grades PreK-5 in Waterford will be participating in the 2024-25 Hour of Code during the months of December and January to help celebrate Computer Science in our schools. This website has been created as a resource for age appropriate coding activities that students can access both in school and at home. The Hour of Code website will remain live throughout the months of December and January to allow students ample time to participate and complete activities.
The Hour of Code is a global movement introducing tens of millions of students worldwide to computer science, inspiring kids to learn more, breaking stereotypes, and leaving them feeling empowered. We know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works.
This year, Hour of Code events will again take place at each elementary school. Students will participate in coding and robotics activities during a 1-hour scheduled block during the school day. They will even get some time to experiment with AI (Artificial Intelligence) through some of our coding activities. We are incredibly excited to celebrate computer science with these events and hope you are able to take some time to do some coding activities with your child at home, too!!!

The sites will not keep track of progress, but will allow our students to problem solve, predict outcomes and persevere, all skills that teachers in Waterford strive to teach our students.
It is exciting that our students will get a chance to be involved in such an important global initiative. If you are interested in reading more about it and the benefits of coding, visit http://hourofcode.com/us .
