In first grade, coding builds upon what they learned in kindergarten, but focuses in more deeply on the basics of programming, collaboration techniques, investigation and critical thinking skills, persistence in the face of difficulty, and internet safety. The specific coding concepts we teach are:
Sequencing - completing a task in a certain order
Loops - will repeat until you give instructions for the computer to stop
Events-actions that users do which cause programs to respond in certain ways
Debugging-finding the exact point where you made a programming mistake so you understand what corrections you need to make in your code
Be sure to ask your child about the Hour of Code event at their school!
