A few months ago we sent out a form asking students at Watauga how they felt about art education, traditional vs. digital art, and more. Below are some of the results from the form, and how the students at Watauga approach the arts, and the new possibilities available in the artistic community.
Student responses represented in the graph are responding to the question, "How important do you think art education is?" The majority agreed that on a scale of 5, the importance of art education sits between a 4 and a 5. This census is important because it allows us to see how the school pushes for art education and how that impacts the students' view, as well as personal opinions for artistic growth in the school system.
The pie chart on the left is the student responses for whether or not traditional art is being outdated. 66.7% disagreed, while 11.1% put in their own nuanced opinion on the issue.
Amber Bateman is in her third year as the Director of the Watauga Arts Council. Her accomplishments have spoken for themselves, as many artistic outreach events have been created, and allowed for the artistic community to flourish. Her impact, along with the others that work alongside her has increased the awareness of arts in the county, however, her personal views regarding the atmosphere around the arts are important to understand.
