Abbi Clark, Sports Desk Lead for The Powderhorn

In October of this year, Watauga Women’s Tennis sent their number 1 doubles team, Larson Berry and Abby Talton, to compete at the state level in the NCHSA 6A Individuals Tournament. There, the girls were able to place runner-up for the 6A conference. 

When playing doubles, the relationship between partners is important. Since the responsibilities are equal among players, trust and friendship are key to building a good team.

“Communication, trust, and good sportsmanship are just a few qualities in choosing the right doubles partner,” said Talton. “It is much easier to play the game when these qualities are present.”

Talton and Berry worked hard all season to be able to take their talents so far. On and off the court, the pair remained friendly, which contributed strongly to their success. Without a strong friendship like theirs, they wouldn’t have been able to get where they did.

“At this level, it's very important that you know how to work well with your doubles partner. It's not about your individual talent but about working together to outsmart and outplay your opponents,” said Talton.
