Sage Park is one of the most successful Playmakers. Just this year they have received multiple awards, spanning regional and national competitions. They were awarded exellence in acting at States, and all-star cast at the national level. In their play "Our Place" they give a riveting, emotional performance as the daughter of a man with dementia.
What were you looking to accomplish coming into the playmakers?
I joined playmakers hoping to do more in theater! I wanted to have a class with other people who were passionate about theater and be able to share work with them.
.
Over the years how have your experiences in the playmakers challenged, inspired, or shaped you as an artist and person?
Playmakers and theatre in general have taught me a lot about self-confidence and being genuine. I’ve become much more comfortable around people and willing to share my work. Art can be such a personal thing, but through Playmakers, I’ve found a lot of joy in discovering everyone’s ideas.
Do you have any advice for incoming playmakers, how would you describe the playmakers as a community?
As an incoming Playmaker, it’s really good to find the balance between give and take. Don’t be afraid to make big choices and share your ideas, but also give a lot of consideration to the whole group. Playmakers is a tight knit group. Both this year and last year, it felt like getting to do theater with my closest friends.
Reflecting back on your time in the program, are you satisfied with your achievements as an individual and group?
I am so happy with what Playmakers has done the past two years. We’ve made some beautiful work, and this year we got to take it to our national competition. I also know that I’ve learned a lot about myself and I’m really happy with where we’re at.
Are there any fond memories of the playmakers you would like to share?
There’s so many good things that have come out of Playmakers, but I’ll never forget my first day. Most of the Playmakers last year already knew each other and I was nervous that I wouldn’t fit in, but the made me feel so welcome instantly. That kindness encapsulates playmakers as a whole really well.
